If you have never played pen-and-paper Dungeons and Dragons, click here while the rest of us read the post. I caught this list of 10 awesome things about Dungeons and Dragons on the blogoblogosphereoblog:
1. Rolling a Natural Twenty when the fight is on the line 2. Leveling up 3. 0 hit points, unconscious, possibly dead 4. The 10' pole 5. The druid spell Shillelagh 6. Being a 1st level Halfling mage with 1 hit point and a dart 7. Drinking ale in the tavern 8. The planar asymmetric synergy of polyhedrons and lead figures 9. Scimitars 10. Treasure Type Q, the best Treasure Type
Which is an impressive list, to be sure. However, mine would have to be something like this:
1. Vorpal Weapons 2. Chaotic Alignments 3. First Edition Monster Manual, giggity 4. Green Dragons + Sodium-tipped arrows 5. The Keep on the Borderlands 6. Expedition to the Barrier Peaks 7. 18/00 STR 8. Hitting Level 9 as a Fighter, becoming a Lord and getting a Keep 9. Being C/E and taking the Borderlands Keep as your own 10. Fireballs

Creating a paladin modeled after The Tick. 3. When in doubt, put them in an arena against NPC versions of themselves. 4. "He can't be an elf; he doesn't come up to my knee!" 5. Spottle. 6. Finding ways to channel my Cyberpunk character in random game sessions. 7. Saving baby kobolds from evil paladins. 8. Using a shrink potion and speaking like a chipmunk for its duration. 9. Monty haul GMs. 10. Dragon turtles and their steam attack.

1. Dual wielding "blender" moves 2. Pyromaniac fire mages 3. A bag of holding full of mules 4. "But there's plenty of armor with chain mail and silk" 5. Whiteboards with buffs and debuffs so that everyone can keep up |

Getting through roughly 50 game sessions before the party realizes your thief is actually an assassin hired to kill the party leader. 5. Having your Mom play a session "I want to see what you kids are doing in this game." and discovering that she is chaotic evil. "Couldn't we just kill the mayor and take the gold without having to go through the dungeon." 6. Remembering the days when you could buy D&D at Toys R Us. 7. THAC0 8. Setting caltrops outside your brothers room using 4 sided dice. 9. You know how to play D&D.. then you know how to play every other p&p rpg... damn d20. 10. Releasing a Saturday morning cartoon based on a game that the same week had stories on the news which stated in contributed to devil worship and suicide.

Haha, thank you for reminding me of that. That movie was horrible. It's campy and could have been written by Jack Chick. Here's a pretty good review site. |
