Print mags are dying, part 37, where Ziff Davis has no clue

Where are they now?
Where are they now?

Print magazines are dinosaurs. I know it, you know it, the only people who don't know it are the dinosaurs. Completely oblivious to the fact that their reign over the gaming news world is coming to an end, guys like Simon Cox from Ziff Davis say things like this:

"If information is all that we require, the Web wins. Game over," said Simon Cox, the vice president for content at Ziff Davis Media's game group, which includes Electronic Gaming Monthly, a print magazine, and the 1UP Network, an online gaming portal. "But people want content and perspective."

Ok. Is Simon seriously suggesting that the Web does not have content and perspective? The Web has more information, more content and a hell of a lot more perspective than anything that all of the print gaming magazines combined could provide. Well, I'm wondering what brilliant plan that Ziff Davis has to deal with such overwhelming adversity:

To keep print subscribers, Ziff Davis aims to offer better writing and reporting than is available from competitors' Web sites, as well as striking visuals.

I'm sorry Simon, but you lose. After that link you will find better writing, better reporting and visuals that strike Ziff Davis and Future US right in the nuts.

I've already killed one of the print dinosaurs, but to be honest it wasn't that hard. Once they become so starved for revenue, they get desperate and start to do anything for money. And once you have someone in that position, you get to do anything you want to them for money. Yeah, even that. Wait, this was about dinosaurs. They're extinct you know, just like print magazines will be before the end of the decade. Sooner if I get to pull the trigger again.
